"Braunvieh Cattle Around the World in Sixty Countries"
We started breeding Braunvieh in 1975 over angus cows, and Simmental over red and white cows which I dispersed in 1987. The angus introduced the poll factor and after 4 crosses to purebred using horned Fullblood bulls. It was in 1982 that I first went to Switzerland and Italy for the first World Conference for Brown Cattle. Touring Germany Italy and Austria looking at Braunvieh. Followed up with second World Conference in Yugoslavia in 1984. This trip continued over to US to meet Harlan Doeschot setting up GLB with his first bull Sambo just out of quarantine at Firth Nebraska. This included a visit to Canada to view Braunvieh breeders there. To begin with Australian Braunvieh bulls were Swiss origin from Canada being Normann, Ueli, Swissway Marshal and Chinook, and England with Degol and Frowin. In 1987 we obtained from GLB two standout sires in Markus and Admiral. In late 1990's access to US bred bulls such as Kitty's Mr Beau and Quasar extended our choices. Also some embryos from Canada and direct US access widened selection. Overseas Polled bulls were quite limited until New era, Black Icon and Genesis. The US had its 25th anniversary event which I attended in 2010 in Denver and toured various studs and events at Ft Worth and San Antonio. Keeping aware of various events and developement of US Braunvieh was essential and the 'Braunvieh World' magazine did that well. The advent of internet and media like facbook has transformed information flow.
